Darke & Taylor’s clear focus on apprenticeships has again been demonstrated with several new developments and initiatives.
New Oxfordshire LEP Apprenticeship Ambassador
Mat Thomas is one of the new Oxfordshire LEP Apprenticeship Ambassadors, following in the footsteps of Darke & Taylor employees Sam Walker and James Parfitt who held the role last year. As an Ambassador Mat is tasked with raising the profile of apprenticeships and generating greater awareness of the benefits they bring to both employers and employees through visits to careers fairs, schools assemblies and employer briefings.
Feedback received after Mat’s training session was extremely positive, with the trainer commenting “Mat proved to be a very confident and able new Apprenticeship Ambassador for Oxfordshire Apprenticeships. His presentation skills were impressive, and we can’t wait until he starts coming out and about with us to events where he can share his Darke & Taylor Apprenticeship story.”
These skills were demonstrated at the recent West Oxfordshire Apprenticeship event where Mat took to the stage for the first time to deliver an excellent ‘off the cuff’ presentation which was very well received by all who attended.
Mat’s story can be read here.
The careers fair season starts!
The West Oxfordshire Apprenticeship event marked the start of the apprenticeship careers fairs season and saw an enthusiastic team made up of Contracts Manager, Keiron Richmond, Contracts Manager, Mark Swadling and Operations Officer, Tanya Webb, talking to the attendees and hoping to spot some talent for next year.
Darke & Taylor’s recruitment process begins in the Spring with a view to recruiting ten new electrical apprentices to start in July/August.
Next up is a two-day visit to Careers Fest 2017 at Mini Plant Oxford on 1st and 2nd February 2017.
Simon joins the Oxfordshire Apprenticeships Awards Committee
Commercial Director Simon Newton has joined the committee which is overseeing the inaugural Oxfordshire Apprenticeships Awards, which will take place on 8th March 2017 during National Apprenticeship Week. Representing large employers, Simon will be bringing Darke & Taylor’s vast experience of apprenticeships to the role. More information is available here.
Darke & Taylor join the 5% Club
The 5% Club is an industry-led initiative focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students. Members who sign up are committed to ensuring 5% of their UK workforce over the next five years are young people on structured training schemes such as apprenticeships or graduate programmes.
Paul McNaughton, Managing Director of Darke & Taylor, said: “Running an apprenticeship scheme helps us to create a skilled, dedicated and loyal workforce that drives our business forward. With the skills shortage and youth unemployment remaining an issue I would urge any business or organisation to look at the steps it can take to improve the situation.”
