Darke & Taylor has won a prestigious industry accolade at the 2015 ECA Annual Awards, scooping the coveted Excellence in Training & Development Award.
The ECA Awards, which are only open to registered members, recognise companies of all sizes who demonstrate the highest standards to which others should aspire. For the Excellence in Training & Development category, the independent judging panel was looking for a building services contractor whose training programmes or initiatives have made significant, tangible and positive improvements to the contractor’s business and/or customers and the wider industry.
Darke & Taylor was recognised for its apprenticeship programme and its commitment to further career development training for its employees. Its apprenticeship programme has been running for over 40 years, offering jobs and training to in excess of 300 young school leavers looking to develop a career as an electrician. Currently over 20% of its 163-strong directly employed workforce is engaged in the apprenticeship scheme, which is significantly ahead of the national average for the industry and the economy in general. The focus the company also places on ongoing training for all employees has positive effects across many areas of the business including job satisfaction, staff loyalty, and the enhancement of Darke & Taylor’s offering to clients and customers.
Paul McNaughton, managing director of Darke & Taylor, said: “We are delighted to win this award and receive recognition from our peers in the electrical contracting sector. The award is testament to our commitment to developing a business that has people at its heart, an approach that enables sustainable growth and gives us a key competitive advantage.”
