This week marks National Apprenticeship Week, whose motto is ‘Build the Future’.
Historically, the second week in February has not proved particularly pleasant, especially if you happened to be royalty: on 12 Feb 1554, Lady Jane Grey was beheaded, likewise Mary Queen of Scots on 8 Feb 1587, and on 13 Feb 1688 James II narrowly escaped a similar fate after being usurped by William of Orange and his wife Mary.
However, for young apprentices the future looks altogether more promising, and here at Darke & Taylor (D&T), we are delighted to be a part of this initiative.
“The 14th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships, taking place across England, will showcase the impact apprenticeships can have on communities, local businesses and regional economies and how they all benefit from the impact of apprenticeships.”

Apprentices have been part of our lifeblood at D&T – over 75% of our 200+ strong workforce either are currently apprentices, or have been one during their career. We recognise that they are our future and consider this week to be one of the most important for us during the year.
Here is a list of the planned national events taken from the gov.uk website:
